The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation Renews Its Support for a Sixth Consecutive Year with $5,000 for the Artist Residency
Press Release
San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation (FGA) has renewed its support of the Olga Iglesias Project (OIP) for a sixth consecutive year, granting $5,000 for the Artist Residency for emerging Puerto Rican classical singers.
Few relationships tell the Project's story better than this one. The FGA has stood with OIP every year since 2021: four annual grants of $5,000, an increased gift of $7,500 in its fifth year, and now this renewal, bringing the foundation's total investment in Puerto Rico's young voices to $32,500 across six years.
The Artist Residency pays professional Puerto Rican singers for their work in the Project's educational recitals and children's opera, pairs them with mentoring, and puts them in front of thousands of public school students each season. The FGA's steady annual support is part of what keeps that work moving between larger grants.
The FGA supports education and social causes through scholarships to university students and donations to nonprofit organizations, backing young Puerto Ricans who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and an interest in community development.
"Six years of trust is a rare gift for a young organization. The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation believed in our artists before almost anyone else, and every recital our artists in residence sing carries a part of that faith."
Anthony Cheney Guzmán, Founder and Executive Director of OIP
