The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation Raises Its Grant to $7,500 in Its Fifth Consecutive Year with the Olga Iglesias Project

Press Release

San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation (FGA) has raised its annual grant to the Olga Iglesias Project (OIP) to $7,500 in its fifth consecutive year of support for the Artist Residency for emerging Puerto Rican classical singers.

The FGA first backed the Project in 2021 and has returned every year since with a $5,000 grant. The increase to $7,500 in this fifth year brings the foundation's cumulative investment to $27,500, and arrives as the Residency's artists carry a fuller calendar than ever: educational recitals across the island, the children's opera La Batalla de los Clásicos, and concerts with the Municipality of San Juan.

The Artist Residency pays professional Puerto Rican singers for their work, pairs them with mentoring, and puts them in front of thousands of public school students each season. Steady annual support like the FGA's is what carries that work between larger grants.

The FGA supports education and social causes through scholarships to university students and donations to nonprofit organizations, backing young Puerto Ricans who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and an interest in community development.

"The Gonzalo Aponte Foundation has renewed its support every single year since 2021, and this year they chose to give more. That kind of quiet, consistent belief in our singers is what a residency is built on."
