The Olga Iglesias Project Brings Its Voices to Chicago at the Invitation of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance
Press Release
Chicago, IL – In April 2024, at the invitation of the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, the Olga Iglesias Project (OIP) brought its educational programming to Chicago, sharing Puerto Rico's classical vocal tradition with the city's Puerto Rican diaspora.
On April 17, in a single day, the artists in residence presented the educational recital "Our Voices" at two Chicago public schools, among them Kelvyn Park High School, bringing the classical vocal genre and the island's great composers to students growing up far from it.
The visit closed on April 18 with a community concert at Desde Mi Barrio, presented with the Alliance's Latin Music Project, where the classical repertoire met beloved Puerto Rican songs before an audience of every generation.
The trip brought together artists in residence Alejandro Márquez (bass-baritone), Adrinelle Chiesa García (soprano), and Christian García (tenor), joined by Ernesto Busigó at the piano.
"The heritage we steward does not live only in Puerto Rico; it lives wherever our people live. Bringing these voices to Chicago's schools meant bringing the island to its students."
Anthony Cheney Guzmán, Founder and Executive Director of OIP
The visit affirmed a core conviction of the Project: Puerto Rico's classical music travels with its people, and its next generation of listeners is everywhere.
