Proyecto Olga Iglesias announces its acceptance into the prestigious Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), making portions of the Olga Iglesias collection available to researchers and the public worldwide through this premier digital repository.
San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Proyecto Olga Iglesias (OIP) is proud to announce its acceptance into the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), a premier international digital repository dedicated to preserving and providing access to Caribbean cultural, historical, and research materials. This milestone achievement enables OIP to share the extraordinary Olga Iglesias collection with researchers, educators, and classical music enthusiasts worldwide.
Following a rigorous application process, OIP has been selected to contribute to this prestigious digital archive that brings together materials from archives, libraries, and private collections throughout the Caribbean and beyond. The initial submission of materials from the Olga Iglesias collection is now available online through dLOC, marking a significant step in OIP’s mission to preserve and share Puerto Rico’s classical music heritage.
The digitized materials include rare photographs, concert programs, correspondence, and other historical documents that chronicle the remarkable career of soprano Olga Iglesias and her collaborations with legendary figures such as Pablo Casals. These materials, spanning from the 1950s through the 1990s, provide invaluable insights into Puerto Rico’s cultural and musical history during a transformative period.
Anthony Cheney Guzmán, Founder and Executive Director of OIP, expressed his enthusiasm about this partnership: “Joining the Digital Library of the Caribbean represents a pivotal moment in our preservation efforts. Through dLOC’s platform, we can ensure that my grandmother’s legacy reaches scholars, students, and music lovers not just in Puerto Rico, but across the globe. This partnership amplifies our mission to make Puerto Rican classical music history accessible to all.”
The Digital Library of the Caribbean serves as a cooperative digital library for resources from and about the Caribbean and circum-Caribbean region. By joining this distinguished network, OIP aligns with leading institutions committed to preserving Caribbean heritage and making it freely accessible for education and research.
This digital preservation initiative complements OIP’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the physical collection while expanding its reach through technology. The materials available through dLOC will support academic research, educational programs, and cultural initiatives that celebrate Puerto Rico’s contributions to classical music.
Looking ahead, OIP plans to continue digitizing and submitting additional materials to dLOC, gradually making more of the Olga Iglesias collection available online. This ongoing effort ensures that future generations will have access to these irreplaceable cultural treasures that document a golden era of Puerto Rican classical music.
