On July 21 at the Carnegie Library in San Juan, OIP presented its first Educational Recital by singers Shelzie Ramos, soprano, and Christian García, tenor, accompanied by pianist Ernesto Busigó. More than 50 people enjoyed the talent of these musicians, mostly young people from the summer programs of the Municipality of San Juan. Those present were captivated by the performances of Felices días (danza puertorriqueña), Aria del Señor de la Casa (opera), duets and compositions by Pablo Casals. The panelists also presented information on the different voice registers and information on the history of singing in Puerto Rico, as well as the influence of Pablo Casals on the musical education of the country.

“We are very pleased that the recital has captured the attention of all those present, especially the young people there, who showed that they can appreciate other musical genres in addition to the urban genre,” said Anthony Cheney Guzmán, executive director of OIP. “It is our mission to promote musical education among our young people and we are sure that through these workshops we will be able to sow the seeds of good music in them” added Cheney Guzmán.

The second Educational Recital was held on the afternoon of August 6 at the Simbiosis Music Academy in Caguas. On this occasion the panelists were the tenor, Jehú Otero, and the soprano, Shelzie Ramos, both OIP fellows. The attendees witnessed the interpretation of pieces such as Cantar Marinero by Puerto Rican Leonardo Egúrbida and Majestad Negra by Héctor Campos Parsi, in addition to having a very pleasant dialogue with the panelists at the end of the presentation.
